In 2000, I dreamed our train right-of-way would become a beautiful path to safely ride my bike from Watsonville to Natural Bridges.

Years later, I dreamed of a path that my kids would ride to school, the store or the park.

Now it is my grandkids who I see in the dream.

Because some people wanted a train.

Even though trains are for cities. So we argue.

Then, suddenly, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) agrees to build the interim trail!

          Unanimously!

                                     Delight!

But wait! Friends of the Rail and Trail, my earnest, misguided mostly Santa Cruz (I hope) neighbors, have been replaced by Train Riders Association of California, run by someone from Marin County who floods us with scary ads and brings frivolous lawsuits against the RTC.

It’s easy to stop progress … sue.

Meanwhile, another cyclist gets killed on our streets.

Santa Cruz grants are to help Santa Cruz residents make travel safer, faster and more pleasurable.

     Let’s do that!

Please, TRAC, it’s been 25 years, leave us alone.

Maybe I’ll get to walk the trail before I die.
