Fifty years ago, I was born at Watsonville Community Hospital. Twenty years ago, I became a registered nurse, and 3½ years ago, I was lucky enough to get a job at Watsonville Community Hospital. I am not a businesswoman. I don’t understand bonds, grants, loans and money issues, but I do understand that this community needs this hospital.
I am scared it will shut down, and you should be scared as well. Every night when I leave work, the emergency room is overflowing with people who need care. We are staffed with hundreds of people willing to give that care.
So how can we keep this hospital open? This community needs more then one hospital; Dominican Hospital cannot accommodate all of our families. This will affect everyone. Life has gotten so complicated lately, maybe we could all just slow down and remember what’s important.
Health is our greatest asset, our wealth. We all deserve good quality healthcare.
