I attended the Nov. 12 meeting of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District board of trustees, where I heard the genuine concerns of both parents and teachers. However, what stood out to me was the clear dysfunction on the board.

Board member Misty Navarro engaged in disputes with both Joy Flynn and Gabriel Medina. The board president, Olivia Flores, became emotional (crying) and claimed to be bullied, though it was unclear to me who the alleged bully was. Carol Turley also cried when she was defending Kit Bragg (human resources).

Additionally, our superintendent found herself in a conflict with Medina, which required an attorney’s intervention to restore order.

This situation raises significant concerns about how a divided and dysfunctional board can make decisions impacting children’s lives. I am also troubled by the financial implications of having an attorney present in such a chaotic setting. How much are we paying for the attorney?

While I commend the student representative for maintaining professionalism amid the turmoil, it is disheartening that he must witness such unprofessional conduct. How can we trust a board that operates in this manner?
