Our democracy is under relentless attack by President Donald Trump and his Republican accomplices. We must take urgent action to prevent our nation from becoming an authoritarian dictatorship.
One element of the Republican attack was Trump’s demand that Texas and other Republican-controlled states conduct partisan mid-decade redistricting designed to elect more Republicans to the House of Representatives in 2026.
Texas dutifully followed Trump’s demand. Missouri soon did the same, and other Republican-controlled states are planning to enact partisan maps of their own.
In response to these Republican attempts to rig the 2026 elections, California’s Legislature created mid-decade redistricting maps for our state. Approval of these maps will be on the ballot in the upcoming election, under the heading Proposition 50.
Unlike the partisan maps created by Republican-controlled states, the California maps are temporary. After the 2030 census, redistricting will again be controlled by the Citizens Redistricting Commission.
Proposition 50 is an urgent response to Trump’s efforts to destroy our democracy. Please help protect our nation by voting yes on Proposition 50.
