A head-on crash on Highway 9 sent two people to the hospital with major injuries.

At around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash on Highway 9, south of California Drive in Ben Lomond. A 66-year-old woman from Boulder Creek was driving northbound in a white Lexus, while a 46-year-old man from Felton was driving a black Lexus southbound on the mountain highway.

The vehicles hit each other head on, leaving the drivers with major injuries. They were transported to Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara by ambulance.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is not believed that drugs or alcohol played a role.
