The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating a fatal stabbing in the DeLaveaga Park area just before noon Friday. It is the second homicide in the city of Santa Cruz this year.
According to an SCPD release, first responders were called to the scene of what was reported as a “stabbing incident” around 11:56 a.m. The victim, a man, was taken to a trauma center, where he died.

So far, police believe that the victim and other people were involved in a physical altercation that eventually turned deadly. Investigators believe that everyone involved knew each other, and that there is “no ongoing threat to the public.”
Investigators do not know of a motive or additional circumstances surrounding the stabbing and the police release did not say whether investigators had any suspects or had made any arrests.
Deputy Chief Jon Bush did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Friday afternoon.
