Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property at 345 Beach Dr, Aptos 95003-5103, under case number NV25343. According to the “CODE COMPLIANCE CASE(S)” section, the single-family dwelling was cited for having a second kitchen installed without the required permits, suggesting an unpermitted conversion or addition that could constitute an illegal duplex or accessory dwelling unit. Additionally, the rear deck of the property was reported to be collapsing, posing a significant structural safety hazard. In summary, the violations include unpermitted construction of a second kitchen and a dangerous, collapsing deck.
     
  • A code violation notice has been issued for case number **NV25342** at 703 Loma Prieta Dr, Aptos 95003-4855. The property was cited for a building code violation due to the presence of an **unpermitted Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) located in a sensitive habitat area**. This violation indicates that an additional residential unit was constructed or established on the property without the necessary permits, and its placement within a sensitive environmental area may raise further compliance and environmental concerns.
     

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • There is one-way traffic on South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. This is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. on April 1.
     
  • One lane is closed on North Highway 9 at Encinal Street in the Westside/Downtown area because of shoulder work. The closure will last until February 28 at 3:01 p.m.
