Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Northbound Highway 9 at Prospect Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley is down to one-way traffic due to emergency work. This closure is expected to last until 3:59 p.m. on December 5.
     
  • Long-term projects: Richmond Drive at Portola Drive and 24th Avenue in Twin Lakes is closed for ongoing project work. The completion date has been pushed back to October 31 because of unexpected issues that need more time to resolve.
     

Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department is currently accepting public comments on a zoning application for a project at 1753 Branciforte Drive in the Carbonera Planning Area. The proposal seeks to renew a permit for a one-bedroom vacation rental in an existing single-family home, which allows overnight stays of up to 30 days at a time. If approved, the renewal would extend the permit expiration date from December 15, to December 15, 203. Residents who wish to provide input must submit their comments before the public comment period closes on October 20. (view application)

  • Live Oak Senior Center at 1777 Capitola Rd, Santa Cruz, passed a county health inspection on October 8 with no critical issues.
     
  • Live Oak Liquors at 1445 Capitola Rd, Santa Cruz, passed a county health inspection on October 8 with no critical issues.
     
  • Melinda’s Gluten Free, Llc at 1420 41st Ave. Ste B, Capitola, passed a county health inspection on October 9 with no critical issues.
     

Community crime report

  • A report was filed for making criminal threats with little information about the suspect. The incident happened near Mentel Ave. & Arana Gulch, Santa Cruz at 6 a.m. on October 8. (source)
