Jana Marcus returns with Part 2 of her series on the enduring lure of the 1980s cult classic film “The Lost Boys,” heading to New York to see its rebirth on Broadway. “While many reviewers are asking whether ‘The Lost Boys’ works as a musical, I found myself asking a different question: What survived the journey from Santa Cruz to Broadway?”, she writes. “The answer, surprisingly, is quite a lot.”

Tania Ortiz previews Tuesday’s meeting of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, where supervisors will consider options for fighting Trump administration plans for offshore oil drilling and mining – specifically, a possible November ballot measure asking voters to weigh in on onshore facilities that support offshore drilling operations.

Pesticides are again the topic in Lookout’s Community Voices opinion section, with retired nurse and healthcare activist Kathleen Kilpatrick writing about big gaps in California’s pesticide air monitoring system. Real protection, she contends, requires reducing pesticide use near schools and neighborhoods — not simply expanding a monitoring network that captures only part of the problem.

The Tuesday headlines also include where local races stand after a big update from the county clerk – including Ryan Coonerty falling below 50% in the Santa Cruz mayoral contest – plus Pajaro Middle School teachers calling for the resignation or removal of the school’s principal and a new era at the Seymour Center. Away we go.
