Four UC Santa Cruz students have reported an unidentified man filming them in campus dormitory showers or stealing their clothing. Two of the students spoke to Lookout’s Hillary Ojeda to highlight what they say are failures by the university to act on requests for additional security measures.
As Santa Cruz works to fill downtown vacancies, small business owners tell Lily Belli and Jessica M. Pasko that high rents, soaring construction costs and bureaucratic hurdles make it difficult to launch a new business and stay open in the city center. Some are thinking of relocating, while city officials say they’re working to streamline permitting and support the downtown core.
On Friday, regional transportation officials revealed the details of their $4.3-billion plan to build passenger train service in Santa Cruz County, including the number of stops (nine) and estimated ridership (as many as 6,000 people a day). This week, Max Chun reports, the public and transit commissioners will get a chance to weigh in.
