Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property located at 409 Lakeview Rd, Watsonville 95076-2215, under case number NV25254. The violations include the unpermitted construction of a hoop house within the property setbacks and the installation of electrical work without the necessary permits. These issues were identified during a site visit on May 23. As the property owner was not present at the time of inspection, a Notice of Violation (NOV) was posted on the premises.
     

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • The southbound lanes of Highway 1 in Capitola/Soquel are facing closures for roadwork. This closure will continue until August 29 at 6:30 a.m.
     

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Aramark-santa Cruz County Jail Rountree at 90 Rountree Ln, Watsonville, passed a county health inspection on June 6 with no critical issues.
     
  • Jack In The Box #3487 at 1700 Freedom Blvd., Watsonville, passed a county health inspection on June 17 with no critical issues.
     

Community crime report

  • A person was stopped for a bicycle violation, and it was found they had a bench warrant for a misdemeanor. They were arrested, given a citation, and then released at the scene. This happened near Lake Avenue and Beck in Watsonville at 10 p.m. on June 16. (source)
     
  • A robbery occurred when a man took his ex-girlfriend’s phone and ran away with it. The incident happened near the 100 block of Clifford Ave. in Watsonville at 9 p.m. on June 16. (source)
