Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • A hit-and-run with no injuries happened at the intersection of the Highway 129 off-ramp and Highway 1 north today. The suspect vehicle is a black older-model Ford Explorer with possible front-end damage; the license plate number is unknown.
     
  • A big rig and a white Toyota Tacoma were involved in a crash at Highway 1 south and Vista Point in Aptos. No one was hurt. The incident was reported today.
     
  • A lane on westbound Highway 152 at Clifford Drive/Ohlone Parkway is closed for asphalt paving. The closure is expected to last until July 3.
     
  • Alternating lanes are closed on north Highway 1 at State Park Drive in Aptos because of bridge work. The closure is expected to last until 4:59 a.m. on Friday. 

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property at 112 Dogwood Dr., Watsonville, under case number NV25368. According to the “CODE COMPLIANCE CASE(S)” section, the violations include the construction of unpermitted units in the rear yard, meaning that additional structures or living units were built without obtaining the required county permits. Additionally, the property was cited for an unpermitted garage conversion, where the garage was converted to another use without the necessary permits or approvals. Both actions are violations of local building codes.
     

Community crime report

  • A person was seen running into CVS without any clothes, then ran out carrying a soda without paying. The person was arrested for shoplifting and being under the influence in public, and taken to county jail. The incident happened near the 400 block of Rodriguez Street, Watsonville, at 7 p.m. on May 11. (source)
     
  • A male juvenile was arrested for shoplifting alcohol from Grocery Outlet. The incident happened near the 1000 block of Main Street, Watsonville at 4 p.m. on May 11. (source)
