Shireen Goudarzi, a third grade teacher at H. A. Hyde Elementary School in Watsonville, is the recipient of Santa Cruz County’s Teacher of the Year award.

This award was among those given to educators, support staff and partners from across the county by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education.
To be eligible for consideration, educators and support staff must demonstrate an ability to create a passion for learning, high expectations for all students, strong communication and collaborative skills, strong sense of values, integrity and professional ethics, knowledge of subject and curriculum content, and a commitment to the community they serve.
The other four categories are: Classified Employee of the Year, Counselor of the Year, Administrator of the Year and Community Partner of the Year.
The recipient of the Classified Employee of the Year award is Emily Tatro, student information and enrollment manager at Linscott Charter School in Watsonville.
The two recipients for the Counselor of the Year award are Cynthia Fernandez, counselor for Costanoa Career Prep High School and Ark Independent Studies in Branciforte Small Schools, and Kayla Raymond, mental health specialist at San Lorenzo Valley Middle School in Felton.
The recipient of the Administrator of the Year award is Marina Maldonado, academic coordinator and assistant principal at Watsonville’s Amesti Elementary.
The recipient of the Community Partner of the Year award is Cabrillo College.
Santa Cruz County Superintendent of Schools Faris Sabbah and the county board of education will recognize the recipients at the board meeting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education at 400 Encinal St., Santa Cruz, or via Zoom.
Honorees will receive a plaque and their names will be engraved on the Educators of the Year plaque. To read more about the recipients, click here.
