Pajaro Valley Unified School District eyes workforce housing, arts complex after $315 million bond win

Pajaro Valley Unified School District is set to review plans on Wednesday to build teacher housing and a new performing arts center after voters approved a $315 million bond measure in November. The district will discuss two feasibility studies for an apartment complex that could be built at one of seven school sites, with costs ranging from $52 million to $87 million, alongside plans for a new performing arts center that could cost $24 million.

Misty Navarro joins Pajaro Valley Unified School District board

Dr. Misty Navarro was sworn in Wednesday to fill the vacant Area 7 seat on the Pajaro Valley Unified School District board of trustees after being appointed by the board in a special meeting on Monday. Navarro is an emergency medicine physician who has worked for Salinas Valley Health for the past 16 years. She succeeds former board president Jennifer Holm, who resigned in September after six years representing Area 7.

Pajaro Valley school administrator charged with sexual assault

Ivan Alcaraz, executive director of student services at Pajaro Valley Unified School District, has been placed on administrative leave after being charged by Watsonville police with sexual assault on Sept. 3. Alcaraz, 37, of Watsonville, has worked in the district for more than a decade, including as assistant principal at Watsonville High School, principal at Rolling Hills High School and the district’s director of student services.
