The City of Watsonville has tapped David Brletic as the new community development director.

Brletic, who officially began his role Monday, will lead the city’s community development department which oversees planning, zoning and building projects. Prior to his new role in Watsonville, Brletic has worked in city planning and development for more than 30 years in cities like Fresno and Tulare.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the City of Watsonville, and I look forward to meeting the community,” said Brletic in a statement Monday. “I will work to guide and support our Community Development Department staff to continue to provide the best service possible and am committed to maintaining and improving the quality of life for all citizens of Watsonville.”

Brletic replaced Suzi Merriam, who left the role in October to become Development Director at the Housing Authority of Santa Cruz County. Assistant Community Director Justin Meek had filled in as interim director after Merriam’s departure.
