Here they are, nine necessary know-abouts for the week ahead. It’s the Welcome-to-June B9:
- Pride Month is upon us, and for the 49th straight (or not so straight) year, Santa Cruz is going all out with its downtown Pride Parade on Sunday (and afterparty!).
- What happens “When a Woman Tells the Truth”? Meet some of those truth-tellers Tuesday at Bookshop Santa Cruz.
- Jamie and Kellen Coffis are products of the San Lorenzo Valley, so headlining the Redwood Mountain Faire is a home game for these guys. See them among their peeps.
- What? A dessert festival? Humble Sea Brewing on the Westside is gearing up for Sweet Home Santa Cruz, and you might want to find your pig-out pants for this one.
- Activist and author Kevin Adler shares his take-action ideas about getting people into stable housing situations in his new book, which he discusses at the Capitola Branch Library next week.
- The talented jazz pianist Rachel Z swings by the Kuumbwa Jazz Center to upend your expectations and pique your curiosity.
- Midtown Fridays are back! The big block party right there on Soquel Avenue gets started on Friday, and takes place every Friday thereafter throughout the summer.
- What Gen Xers might remember as “shoegaze” music is alive and well with the moody and visionary band DIIV, who bring their new album, “Frog in Boiling Water,” to town next week.
- The choral group Pacific Voices has been raising their voices for 30 years and they’re breaking out the songbook for a big celebration at Cabrillo College.
