Quick Take
The incident involving two bodies found in a truck in the Santa Cruz Mountains earlier this week is now being investigated as a double homicide, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed on Friday that it is investigating the deaths of two people found in an abandoned truck in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a double homicide.
CHP investigators were called to the area of Highway 35 near Oak Ridge Road, south of Castle Rock State park, just before 7 p.m. on Monday, where they found two bodies inside of an abandoned pickup truck.
CHP Sgt. Andrew Barclay previously told Lookout that the deaths were considered “suspicious,” but that there was little information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths, because there were no known witnesses. Barclay told Lookout on Friday that autopsy results prompted the agency to investigate the incident as a double homicide, but declined to comment on what the results were. The Santa Clara County coroner’s office also declined to provide further information.
Local news station KSBW reported on Thursday that one of the victim’s sisters identified him as Sean Pfeffer, 45, of Boulder Creek. Nicki Dorris, Pfeffer’s sister, did not return Lookout’s request for comment over social media, nor did his mother, Lydia Sanders Hislip. However, Pfeffer’s most recent Facebook post, on March 23, suggests that he was involved in some sort of conflict. In the post, Pfeffer named a man, and wrote, “I hope you shoot me.” CHP has not confirmed the identities of either victim, nor named anyone as a potential suspect.
Dorris posted again to social media on Wednesday asking anyone who might know anything about the incident to come forward: “He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a father and a friend to many and did not deserve this!”
Another friend of Pfeffer’s, Justine Parker, posted to Facebook on Tuesday, writing that Pfeffer “had his personal demons” but that he had always been there for her. “[He] never lied to me, never stole from me, stood up for me, would go out of his way for me, never asking for anything in return,” she wrote. Parker also did not return Lookout’s request for comment.
