We’re excited to share a new way to experience Lookout Santa Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning local news: audio! With the help of our partner Everlit, you can now listen to our coverage directly from your device — perfect for busy mornings, commutes and those wishing to stay informed on community happenings while multitasking.
How does it work? On select Lookout stories, you’ll find an audio player embedded at the top of the page (like the one above). Simply hit play to tune in! Change up the speed by clicking the “1x” on the player – listen at three-quarters, 1.25, 1.5 or 2 times the speed of the default settings. Members enjoy unlimited access across all our content, so if you love the idea of listening to more stories, become a Lookout member today.
As we roll out this feature, we’d love your feedback. We are constantly updating the library to ensure all names, places and other words are pronounced correctly – the tool will only get better as we take in feedback and build it to match our Santa Cruz County vernacular. (Don’t worry, we’ve already taught the player how to say Aptos.) Please feel free to email us your thoughts and questions at help@lookoutlocal.com.

Thank you to our members and partners, whose support allows us to find new ways to deliver the daily news that Santa Cruz County needs, helping us build a stronger, better-connected community.
