Measures B and C might sound helpful at first glance, but a closer look shows how damaging they will be to local residents. Both measures impose new parcel and transfer taxes at a time when the cost of living is already overwhelming in the city of Santa Cruz.

We are told these taxes will create more affordable housing and address community needs, but there is little accountability and no assurance that the funds will truly reduce homelessness or lower housing costs. What is certain is that property owners, renters and small businesses will feel the squeeze.

Santa Cruz needs solutions that encourage responsible development and make housing more accessible, not measures that punish residents with higher taxes. For these reasons, I urge my neighbors to vote no on Measures B and C.
