I have grown up in a beach town my entire life. Storms and huge ocean waves are not unknown to me. I do hope the Santa Cruz City Council explores what other beach towns have done to keep their wharves intact and the businesses thriving. Redondo Beach built  a horseshoe pier to help protect it from rough seas. In this way, it did not stretch out into the ocean. Keep the pier close to shore.

Redondo also built an extensive breakwater. It’s time to think outside of the box and design the pier for the effects of climate change. Perhaps, we need a shorter pier?
