Watsonville ‘road diet’ entering environmental studies phase; city wants Caltrans construction date to move up

The Caltrans-led “road diet” project in downtown Watsonville aims to reduce Main Street’s four lanes to two lanes with a third running down the middle and is moving as scheduled. The project is entering its environmental studies phase, but city officials want the 2031 construction date to be moved up.

County officials show off road repairs — some complete, some held up by a lack of federal funding

Santa Cruz County has been battered over the past few winters by storms that resulted in hundreds of damaged or unusable roads. Although county crews completed 122 repair projects in the year following the 2023 storms, 100 still remain. Officials point to federal agencies that are slow to free up funding and weather setbacks each winter delaying work.

Public input sought on Santa Cruz County transportation spending

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is inviting the community to provide input on how it will invest voter-approved revenue from Measure D, a transportation improvement tax that was approved by voters in 2016 to provide funds for highway, trail, rail, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and transit programs in Santa Cruz County.
