The entire length of Highway 9 will be affected by road closures this week for a vegetation control project.

While the project spans the entirety of the highway, crews will be focused on an area north of Boulder Creek from Juanita Woods Road to just north of the Waterman Gap, Caltrans said in a news release.

The project, which runs through Friday, aims to reduce wildfire risk and manage vegetation along state highways. Crews are removing an average of 8,000 lbs. of dense brush every day. Their focus is on dead or dying brush and ladder fuels, vegetation that connects ground-level brush to tree canopies.

Motorists should drive carefully on Highway 9 and expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Be on the lookout for flaggers and highway workers.

The $500,000 project’s contractor is C.T.L. Forest Management, Inc., of Cameron Park.

Additional, tree work, slope repair, and vegetation control will close down sections of Highway 9 from Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those sections are between Twin Gates and Russell Avenue, Prospect Avenue and Lorenzo Avenue, and Mcgaffigan Mill Road and Mitchell Drive.
