Caltrans is continuing its work cutting back vegetation and removing dead brush along Highway 9 this week — and that will mean more headaches for motorists in the area.

Starting Tuesday, crews will focus on the stretch of Highway 9 north of Boulder Creek, between Shilo Drive and Waterman Gap. Drivers should expect to wait up to 15 minutes when traffic is limited to one lane, from Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should watch out for workers and follow directions from flaggers in the work zones, Caltrans said in a news release.

The work is part of an effort to help prevent wildfires near the state’s highways. Workers are removing about 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of thick brush every day along the highway, aiming to create gaps in the vegetation so fires can’t spread easily.

C.T.L. Forest Management from Cameron Park has the contract for the $500,000 project.
