In the Monday, April 6, edition of the Aptos neighborhood newsletter, there was a notice posted under property development that used an outdated term that is hurtful to segments of our community. Details of the zoning application include a reference to “… a new master bedroom…”
The term “master bedroom” dates back to slavery times (master’s bedroom) and has been replaced in the current lexicon with the more appropriate “primary bedroom.”
Is this “woke?” Yes. There is a recognition among thoughtful people that, once brought to their attention, insensitive, outdated terms should be left in the past.
