The City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department and Power Engineering Construction Company have begun repair work at the south end of the Santa Cruz Wharf that is expected to stretch into March 2025 and will include demolition of the former Dolphin Restaurant.
The south end of the wharf has been closed since powerful storms in December 2023 and February 2024 caused significant structural damage, including the destruction of critical support piles.
In a release, the city said it’s moving forward with a “comprehensive repair and reinforcement project” that will include:
- Demolition of the Dolphin Restaurant and its associated enclosed patio.
- Removal and disposal of damaged piles.
- Installation and replacement of damaged or missing piles.
- Installation and replacement of associated structural members, mechanical connectors and decking.
The project will go beyond addressing storm damage, the city said, and also shore up the structural integrity of the wharf.
