Burke was the subject of intense search efforts in the days and weeks following the last sighting of her, on the afternoon of Nov. 18 near the Felton quarry, walking toward Empire Grade Road. Her body was found Jan. 18 in a wooded area inside the search zone near Ice Cream Grade and Moore Ranch Road.

At the time she went missing, the sheriff’s office described Burke as “at risk” due to medical concerns.

“The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Ms. Burke’s family and friends during this tragic time,” the agency said in its release. “We are grateful to the many agencies that assisted in the search efforts, as well as to the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team for their persistence and dedication in locating Ms. Burke despite the challenges they faced.”
