An early look at Cabrillo Festival’s new season
The 2023 season of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music will run July 30-Aug. 12 at the Santa Cruz Civic, and will include a visit from The Kronos Quartet and a festival-commissioned piece paying tribute to longtime executive director Ellen Primack, who’s stepping down after 33 years.

Santa Cruz to hold public meeting on mixed-use project for site of Mission Street’s Food Bin & Herb Room
The 42,849-square-foot development would take over the parcel where local grocery stores The Food Bin and Herb Room currently sit. It is still in the pre-application phase, and the City of Santa Cruz is hosting a community meeting April 18 for residents to learn more about the development, ask questions and raise concerns.

The Hip Santa Cruz History Project is the brainchild of longtime UCSC professor Ralph Abraham and Cabrillo College teacher T. Mike Walker. They recently released Volume 6 in their “Hip Santa Cruz” series — essays, poems and more about the hippie era and its long aftermath in Santa Cruz, largely written by people who lived through it, to be released April 8 with a gathering at the Santa Cruz Art League.
